“Church Shopping”

Here’s a thought I had about a recent article I read about “church shopping”. We really need to stay true to God’s Word.

Another great blog post Pastor Bob!
I pray that men of God everywhere will hear your words of warning and heed them. Thanks for sounding the battle cry!

  2. Thank you pastor! I find if a Christian listens to the Spirit a believer will go to the church of God’s choice, and if it’s God’s choice the Pastor will be as well – That’s why Calvary Chapel is my church and you are my Pastor. I trust God’s choice for my life and God’s man he appointed – you speak the truth in Love and for that I am and will be eternally gratefull!

AMEN! You are sooooooooooooooo right. If we had more pastors like Pastor Bob – our country would be in better shape!

  4. Reminds me of something I once read about how the church has followed in the world’s footsteps to a degree in that Americans thrive on fast food, fast service, instant everything etc… and now we want our spirituality pronto as well! Unfortunately, some pastors are falling right into line….make it fast and palatable. Yuck.

  5. For many years I compromised & looked for God Lite. I didn’t want the whole truth. Through God’s wisdom & direction, eight years ago, He took me several thousand miles & had me sit in a chair at Calvary Ft. Lauderdale. It was there where I heard the truth & took it to heart. Now God Uses me to teach His truth. I have a book Called, We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray and God Wants Us Back. Something that I would have never done without the truth I heard from God through you. Thanks Pastor Bob

Pastors and teachers should be preaching and teaching the Truth.
But what if some youth leader tells his kids not to make any friends at school? What if he tells them not to associate with them if they do not go to the same church?

That’s what’s going on with my two daughters at our church. They go to public school, win people over to Christ, and disciple them only if it doesn’t conflict with our church’s schedule.
But our youth leader says “no. don’t talk with them”.

    (continued)

We’re told not to even visit friends if they do not come to our church.
We’re told to associate with people if they’re even in the same denomination.

People at my church are more worried about losing the amount of people rather than winning souls.

I’m staying there to try to open their eyes.

  8. My husband and I recently made the painful decision to leave our church- we had been very involved in ministry and enjoyed wonderful fellowship. In an effort to appeal to young people and look more “hip” and less “judgmental” the Pastor began to embrace tenets of the “emergent” movement (there is no absolute truth, we’re all saved.) Praise God for the courage to leave and find a church where the voice of Truth reigns! We dearly miss our friends, but we knew we must honor the Lord and His Word.

Bob, You are so right on. It is not a new trend either. I went to many churches for years and never heard about, or was it explained to me what born again was. When my brother was dying he told me about being born again and I gave my life to Jesus and started going to the local Lutheran church and felt so empty when it came to their service. I got more from the teachings on the radio with the Calvary Chapel Pastors that I found a local Calvary with Pastor David Rosalez and the teaching bless me.

Praise God for men like you and my pastor who continue to teach us sheep the word of God. Even when it is not the “popular” thing to do. Jesus told Peter if you love me feed my sheep. Keep up the “good” work! My husband & I love you brother. Debbie from Farragut Iowa

    Pastor Bob,
I live here in Delray and also in Fiji. When I am home I am in the chuch because of that very issue. I love how straight your messege is. When I am away I depend on archive messeges, that is better than not hearing you at all. Thank you for who you are. And I thank God for the messeges he allows to come through you to my ears.

I feel you are so right , we need to hear the truth of the words of the bible. To me, as someone who has always believed in God, and I am well read, but never the bible…. I am now reading it and doing online study. The KJV is very different from my NIV the wording is softer and I understand it better. So maybe it is not a softening of the word but the new translation. As long as the truth is perceived and the words are understood better who is hurt by this. Is it not still God’s word.

  13. Wow Pastor, You don’t even know how sweet the timing was of this.
We are currently in a spot like we feel we need to move on so we are able to grow more and learn Gods word as well as apply it to our lives. Like some other comments I read, we too are heavily involved in the ministry and its a tough call, lots of friends and memories, just feel like we are not fulfilling our God given potential.
    Gods timing is perfect AMEN!

Thank you for your encouraging words. I’ve recently been strugling with the tugging of my heart to another church. I know God has so much more for me and that is why i am being led to another place so i can move from glory to glory.Your words were confirmation to me that i am on the right path. Thank you and God bless you!

I also see Pastor Bobs message being one that is not just on truth, but one of “Preach the entire Bible.”Many churches are now sugar coating their messages. Their message is one of Love,Joy,Happiness,& never any about Judgement, & Wrath. The churches that are only teaching and preaching “happy church” keep those in the congregation from learning how to deal with the bad and the ugly. Not equipping them fully, and ready for the battle we are constantly in daily. This is a topic that can go on & on

I appreciated your blog and I am still amazed at the amount of church hopping people do. I believe in making a comittment to a church. I believe our purpose in life is relationship with God and relationship with people. How do we build the kind of relationships with people where we can be real and others be real with us and that we can grow together in Christ if we are always hopping away.

i was a manipulator, thief, drug attict, stole, i was NOT looking for GOD, he nocked on my door and i FINALLY said yes, HE DID in a mighty way. i read the bible in 6 days, and after finishing it, i thought, “man, my whole life has been a lie”. well, i’m here to tell you i have NEVER looked back. I have spiritual leaders that when i fall off the track, through love, n the “truth” get me back on track. yes it hurts, but it’s the truth, and thats ALL i want to hear. i don’t want a pat on the back.

We are so thankful to you, Pastor Bob, for teaching the absolute truth with love and without compromise. Calvary Chapel is home to us for 11 years. We never take for granted how blessed we are to be part of a real church that is all about making disciples and staying true to God’s Word. P.S.I love these video blogs….what a great idea!

  19. I like Ruth Anne’s comment, most of the others have put Pastor Bob and Calvary on a pedistal (no offence to you Pastor Bob) one should follow your preaching and not idolize you or the building. There are many good spirit filled churches, Calvary happens to be one of them. I have often wondered what would happen to Calvary if Master (sorry Pastor) Bob is called home? Pastor Bob did address is this issue once – a good sermon. At another opportune time it should be re-addressed to keep us focused
